10 Reasons to come to the Lowell Mass Memories Road Show Tomorrow

All you have to do is come to this COMPLETELY FREE EVENT at the Boott Mills tomorrow anytime between 10am and 3pm with up to 3 pictures and a willingness to tell why they’re important to YOU. You are the star of the Mass Memories Road Show.

10) Celebrate your family and your place in the community by sharing 3 pictures that tell historians what was important to people in the city of Lowell in 2012.

9) Meet other people and hear their stories of this great City

8) If you share 3 pictures, you get free entrance into the Boott Museum to learn about the history of the city of Lowell

7) If you have a family photo that you can’t date there will be an expert in hairstyles, fashions, and photo dating there to assist you.

6) If you have a picture that you’re pretty sure was in Lowell, but you can’t figure out where, there will be historians present to help you place your pictures.

5) You can talk to historians and archivists about how to uncover your family history and genealogy.

4) You can add your business and work to the historic record of the city. Whether you’re a restaurant, a club, a manufacturer, a lawyer or an artist – bring pictures of what you do and add it into the archives.

3) Find new connections within the community that you never knew – at previous roadshows people have actually found distant relatives just by seeing the pictures as they’re added to the collection.

2) Share your stories with people who are interested, and might even have been there too.

1) Become a star. Everyone that brings an image to the Road Show is one of of the Stars of the Show.

By sharing your stories, you allow historians and scientists to have a better picture of this city and state and assist them in figuring out what happened, when, why, and how – and how we can learn from it and make our world a better place. History is important!

I really hope to see you there.

Fondly
Stephan

There is too much to say

Well, a lot has happened since my last post. I’m going to summarize a lot of it, but some isn’t for me to share. So it’s like this: At the end of February, I had a spontaneous carotid dissection. A lot of the time this leads to a stroke, but in my case it didn’t. In my case, it led to complete loss of vision in my left eye.

I really haven’t posted much about it for several reasons, but the most important of them is that I don’t like to share every little detail of my personal life on the internet. It’s bad enough that I share so much in my poetry and art, but this seemed to be across so many lines, I just wanted to leave it alone.  As time goes on, I realize it’s important for folks to have some clue about it though.

The thing is, it did affect my writing and my art. It is my new reality. When you read my poetry or look at my artwork, you’re going to notice themes and they make much more sense if you know a bit about what I’m dealing with. That is one of the things that’s been going on. Not the worst of them, not the most difficult, not even the scariest – but it is a big one.

Besides that, there have been some family health issues, and a loss in the family. These are horrible, and sad, and scary, and they too are showing up in what I am doing. I think what surprises me the most is how they have lifted me up rather than brought me down. As keenly has I feel all the hurts and loss, I suddenly see how much joy and how many precious gifts I have and it would be ungrateful to be forlorn or wallow in despair.

Life is good. It’s really that simple.

Decisions Decisions

We’ve decided that the door to #432 will be stained, not painted. That was an easy one. The woodgrain is really nice and I can’t see ruining it with paint. I am leaning toward a walnut sort of stain.

It’s not that it’s a big decision, but sometimes it’s good to just make one decision so the rest can follow. Now we’re still trying to figure out the problem of the floor, but the color scheme of the studio, i think we’ve got down.

I’m actually excited about it. I’ll be changing the colors and designs here to match. I think I also need to make an “Anstey Studio’s” Logo.

Thinking about the floor

Now that I’ve leased the studio, I have to figure out a few things. The colors – that wasn’t too difficult – everyone knows I love any color as long as it’s green. The problem is the floor. It’s a nasty, grease stained wood and it needs SOMETHING.

My inclination at first was to Killz it then paint it with some sort of enamel type paint. But then, I got to thinking. I like the nasty look. I think I’m going to polyshade it, then polyurethane it.

Decisions, decisions.
